General Cemetery

The General Cemetery is one of the most impressive examples of architecture in the city since 1843. It is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in America. It contains all the architectural styles from Greco-Roman, Neoclassical, Baroque, Italian, Spanish, Arabic and Jewish.

The Cemetery was declared National Cultural Heritage. It has mausoleums from the last century with chapels and iron doors.

The central part of the Cemetery is the oldest, in it you can find the most beautiful sculptures, busts and mausoleums of local personalities made in Carrara marble. Statues of Angels, Virgins, and Saints accompany the deceased in their rest.

The General Cemetery of the City of Guayaquil is an outdoor museum in which we can find perfectly carved sculptures and we can also find reflections of our religious customs.
