Las Peñas historical neighborhood

It is the traditional and historical district of Guayaquil, its keeps similar characteristics to those of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It hosts art galleries and the bohemian life of Guayaquil. Each house has its own history. Famous political and cultural local personalities used to live in this neighborhood. The big fire of Guayaquil of 1896 destroyed most of the wood houses of Las Peñas, for this reason it was rebuilt keeping its original architecture. Currently, the renovated Barrio Las Peñas with its narrow Numa Pompilio Llona street and its riverside houses make it a striking and nostalgic tourist destination.
