It is the largest island in the archipelago. Its main port is Puerto Villamil, located at the south part of the island. Isabela is the only Galapagos Island crossed by the Equator.
Here there are lots of penguins, marine iguanas, flightless cormorants, blue-footed boobies, pelicans.
The island is formed by five volcanoes: Cerro Azul, Sierra Negra, Salcedo, Darwin and Wolf. On its skirts are giant turtles, land iguanas, finches, pigeons, hawks and vegetation.
Its main attractions are:
Elizabeth Bay: with mangroves, sea turtles, herons.
Punta Moreno: with sea birds, mangrove, and ideal for snorkeling.
Tagus Cove: dry vegetation, marine iguanas, penguins, sea horses, ideal for snorkeling.
Sierra Negra Volcano: Isabela´s active volcano, whose 30 square miles crater is the second largest active volcano in the world.
Chico Volcano: ideal for hiking and horseback riding, 40 minutes by car from Puerto Villamil to the place called “El Cura”, near the edge of the crater where a Galapagos National Park station is located.
Wall of Tears: a wall built by prisoners when the islands were a prison.
Flamencos Lake: one of the main sites for watching reproduction of flamencos.
