Metropolitan Cathedral
It is located in downtown Guayaquil, in front of the Seminario Park. It has neo-gothic style and was built in 1936. The church “El Sagrario” and the Archbishop’s Palace are located next to it. On top there are two towers that finish in gothic needles. Inside there are three wide corridors decorated with stained glass windows in beautiful colors.
Santo Domingo church
Located a few blocks from Barrio Las Peñas, it is the oldest temple of the city, founded in 1548 by the Dominicans. Due to multiple fires it was rebuilt several times.
In the steps that lead to the church, visitor will find a cross that remembers the old tradition of the medieval churches. It is also known as San Vicente Ferrer church.
La Merced Church
Neo-gothic style located on Av. Victor Manuel Rendon and Pedro Carbo was inaugurated in 1936. Its Main Altar is in baroque style, carved and covered in gold leaf with the image of the Virgin of La Merced.
San Francisco Church
It is located on 9 de Octubre Avenue and Pedro Carbo. It is of Neo-classic style and was inaugurated in 1902. Its original construction was in wood but was destroyed by the fire.
There are beautiful and majestic golden wood altars and artistic statues. Lovely sculptures representing several Saints are distributed in three columns. The marble Altar with gold leaf moldings stands out.
Doves that stand on the outside are part of the history of the church.
